This last weekend Cindy and I went for a long walk. The leaves were falling like snowflakes. Tried the best that I could to catch leaves tumbling to the ground. This picture is for all our friends in CA. While Santa Barbara is stunning, we never experience this beautiful display by Mother Nature!!
My dearest friend Moneen would wear gigantic earrings like these (see featured photo) on a tennis competition day. Those earrings were bigger than tennis balls. How did she do it? She also polished her nails in her superstitious color (vivid bright orange) minutes before we would walk onto the court. She would walk off the … Continue reading Celebrating Good Friends & Huge Earrings
Our dear friends next door to us on the lake, John and Cindy read someplace in a local paper that the Lion's Club at Crooked Lake was having an Oktoberfest Feast. Since there is little or nothing to do up in northern Wisconsin during the Autumn, all four of us were in. Hey, beautiful fall … Continue reading Humble Surroundings – Awesome Food
Not much to say other than fall colors are fantastic this year. Only unusual aspect of this Autumn is all of the trees turned yellow or orange. Hardly any flaming reds. We took these photos on a very rainy day. We were afraid the foliage would be gone before we had a chance to shoot … Continue reading On a rainy October day.
We've been in Wisconsin for over two months and today, I finally buckled and bought some Cheese Curds. Good thing the Ice Cream Stand is closed for the season or I would have payed them a visit as well. Anyway, back to cheese curds. A huge aspect of cheese curds is they have to be … Continue reading The Truth About – Cheese Curds
My dearest friend Gitta gave me four beautifully designed Oktoberfest mugs. Gitta, Norbert, Jim, and I all attended Oktoberfest together several years ago. Every year an artist's design for a coffee mug is selected and that vessel represents Oktoberfest for that year. At the end of a very long and exciting day, Gitta insisted we … Continue reading Petite Octoberfest Mugs
Sorry I've been away for several weeks. My Mom (Elfrieda Sigmund) died several weeks ago. It was swift, not particularly unexpected, but merciful. We arrived in WI to find her very sick, moved her to an assisted living home, and she passed away only four days later. So now we have a cautionary tale to … Continue reading RIP Elfrieda F. Sigmund Born June 11, 1929 Died August 29, 2018
James and I went for a walk this afternoon just to beef up our steps for the day. We decided we needed to walk at least a mile, so a walk into town was perfect. It's been a beautiful day; temps in mid seventies, no humidity, and a little breeze. James suggests we visit the … Continue reading Went for a walk and picked up a dog
We went here after we picked James up from the airport in Green Bay. James said he has not been able to find a decent Italian restaurant in Portland... who would have thunk it. We searched Yelp and found this place, which was the highest rated Italian spot in Green Bay. Food was really nice, … Continue reading Angelina Restaurant, Green Bay, WI
I am trying to empty my Mom's freezer, which was chuck-full of stuff. One item was a bag of raw shrimp. Also now is the height of fresh corn season up here in Northern Wisconsin, so I came up with this hybrid recipe of corn chowder and barbecue shrimp. It worked! Author: Laura Kirkley Serves: … Continue reading Fresh Corn Chowder with Bacon and Barbecue Shrimp
