A favorite YouTube channel of mine has become Tipsy Bartender. He makes fun drinks and shows you how to do it in an entertaining way, and is obviously having a great time while he’s doing it. Recently I saw a video of his that showed how to make Mountain Dew flavored ice cream. I’ve always wanted to make home made ice cream but always thought I needed a machine. But it turns out you don’t. Also it’s really easy, fun, and inexpensive. However, my friends current obsession is Dr. Pepper. So instead of Mountain Dew, I made it with that and a few other ideas.
1/2 Cup Whipping Cream
1 Can Condensed Milk
1 Can Dr. Pepper
1/2 tsp Nutmeg
1 tsp Cinnamon
1/2 tsp Ground Clove
1 Tsp ground Ginger
First whip the cream until it forms stiff peaks in a mixing bowl. Use an electric mixer if you can because doing it by hand is a huge pain. Next fold in the condensed milk. Folding is very different from mixing and if you don’t know the difference you should look it up because it’s an important distinction.
Next slowly pour in the Dr. Pepper, letting the fizz aerate the mixture. Finally stir in the spices. You may want to adjust the amounts of various spices and substitute your own. Dr. Pepper is nothing if not difficult to pin down the exact flavor after all. If you want, a bit of brown food coloring can go a long way here to make it look more like frozen Dr. Pepper. But I didn’t have any.
Finally slowly pour the mix into a baking pan and put it on the freezer to set up. This Will take a few hours so it’s best to just wait a whole night. Now, this makes perfectly serviceable ice cream. But it doesn’t have the smooth texture of ice cream from an ice cream maker. If you want that, you’ll just have to get an ice cream maker and use that. But they add a lot of work, not to mention they cost a bit. But this ice cream has it were it counts with flavor.
