Roake’s Hot Dogs

As you can probably guess from a few articles I’ve written, I have a special fondness for roadside stands that sell unhealthy American food. It’s one of the reasons I miss the gym so much since I have to cut back on it a bit.

As I mentioned when talking about Mike’s I’m forever looking for a roadside diner that even comes close to Northern Delights in Northern Wisconsin. So when I spotted another one within driving distance of me that specialized in hot dogs specifically, I had to try it out.

Roake’s definitely fits the bill for a classic American roadside food stand. It has copious outdoor seating of cheap metal furniture, indoor seating with chrome lined decorations, and a small, ala carte menu with nothing on it over $6. Exactly the kind of thing I was looking for.

Since this is still the time of Covid-19, I could only order at the window for takeout. I was feeling like a hot dog so I got the Long Coney Island Dog and fries. The dog was very good if basic, and there was a lot of it. It came with raw onions and a house made sauce. Their fries are also one of my favorite types too, but do need a fair helping of salt and ketchup.

Is it as good as Northern Delights, no, but I’m starting to think that nothing really is for me unless I just go back to Wisconsin.
