My Typical Breakfast

I’ve written a lot about various breakfasts and brunches all over Portland. While this only makes sense because this is a very breakfast food focused town I don’t want people to think that I’m tucking into a plate of biscuits and gravy and washing it down with a Bloody Mary every morning. As appealing as that sounds it’s incredibly unhealthy and I’d probably have serious health complications as a result.

But I still love breakfast. I’ve been counting calories lately to try to lose weight too. But a good breakfast is a great way to start the day and I have a few things I’ve been using that I can throw together quickly to make a satisfying meal.

The first is a strong cup of coffee. I have an grinder, electric kettle, and French press. While all methods of making coffee are good, the French press makes that strong, oily style of coffee that I really enjoy the most. So I start every morning with a big cup of coffee.

I also have toast with some of my Rillettes on top. This is a nice small, tasty, salty hit of meat every morning that helps jump start my metabolism. I added a link to my recipes so you can see how easy and delicious they are.

Finally I have a cup of Tillamook Strawberry yogurt. It helps my stomach since it’s a probiotic as well as gives me a nice bit of sweetness to compliment the rillettes. I’ll add real strawberry if I can but it’s not necessary since it tastes good enough on its own. This combination of things is a great, easy to put together and tasty combination of breakfast food. On this morning I also added a Bloody Mary since I have been working on that recipe. It was…. a little excessive but I’m stuck inside all day so why not. IMG_0567
