Mut-Ant Sliders

This will be kind of a weird one. One of the main reasons I haven’t been writing too much is because my LARP (Live Action Role Playing) started and became really successful. So that’s exciting. But it does also take up a lot of my time.

But it means I get to be really creative too. I create new details for the world of my LARP every day. Being a Chef I can’t help but think about what food people eat. So in the comically terrible post-apocalyptic world of my game, one of the meanest animal out there is the Mut-Ant. A giant, terrible ant fueled by hatred that exists as a blight on humans. It’s also one of the only food sources humans have in the Wastes (World I created.) So of course the people have taken to making Sliders out of it to make it edible.

To give it that spicy citrus taste I marinated chicken thighs in chili lime mix, keep it to baste while grilling. I also wanted a lots of spice and crunch so deep fried jalapenos were the way to go. This is a fun and simple recipe.

6 Hawaiian Rolls
3 jalapenos
3 chicken thighs
2 limes
3 Tbs Mae Ploy Sweet Chili Sauce
1 Egg, beaten
4 Tbs All-purpose flour
1 cup Panko bread crumbs
2 cups neutral cooking oil, like vegetable or avocado
3 Tbs mayonnaise
3 Tbs Sriracha

Start by marinating the chicken thighs in the juice of the limes and Mae Ploy. Make sriracha mayo with the Sriracha and mayonnaise.

Cut lengthwise into four strips and core the jalapenos, then dip in the flour, then egg, and bread crumbs. Then deep fry in the vegetable oil. Move to a paper towel afterwards to keep them from getting soggy.

Grill the chicken. Baste with remaining marinate. Cut to fit Hawaiian rolls. Use a generous helping of sriracha mayo and two strips of jalapeno. Serve while still nice and hot. Feed three regular people, or maybe one hungry post-apocalyptic survivor!

  1. I like these and I like the concept of making a food fit a game. I run a D&D game every now and then and I find myself making food for the game that blends with the them of the adventure. Thanks for sharing this one…I’m bound to try it.
