Exploring Sellwood: Grand Central Bakery

Since I’m moving to Sellwood soon. I’m trying to explore a few of the really great food places there. It’s an amazing little neighborhood and there’s lots of great spots. One of my favorite pubs, Muddy Rudder is there. There’s also a Killer Burger within walking distance of my condo. Which, is just downright dangerous.

What I’ll write about today is a place I’ve been to a few times since it’s dog friendly and Diana and I like to go there before we walk the dog in Oaks Bottom Preserve: Grand Central Bakery.

It’s a small spot located along SE 13th, one of the main roads going through downtown Sellwood neighborhood. Its a great spot. Which, is unfortunately also why it’s so crowded which is the only thing I don’t like about it. But that’s Portland. People love the great little spots here and as a result they don’t stay little for long.

The best reason to go to Grand Central Bakery, in my opinion, is their sandwiches to order. They make them on the house made bread which makes an enormous difference. I always get the blue ribbon, which is a roast beef sandwich with bleu cheese, pepper greens and pickled onions. It’s subtle and doesn’t try to do too many things at once.

I look forward to making this my new morning spot in this neighborhood since it’s within walking distance.
