People like to send me all sorts of those YouTube recipe tutorials. Usually I find them pretty fun if a little simple or short on explaining technique. But anything that convinces people to cook is good in my opinion. After having watched a bunch of them, I’m starting to pick up on a bit of a trend. One of the things these videos like to do that I’ve noticed is use a lot of ready made dough of various sorts. Usually something simple like rolling some cheese in with the dough and making cute crescent roll type things. I saw that and thought “I could do that” and decided to try to make my own Stromboli. Basically pizza rolled up instead of flat or folded like a calzone.
1 Package Pillsbury Pizza Dough
1 Package Salami or Pepperoni or other Italian Cured Meats, you pick
Some Tomato Sauce
Olive Oil
Crushed Garlic
Dried Oregano
Shredded Mozzarella and Parmesan.
Preheat the oven to 300. Put tin foil and oil on a baking sheet (I learned that the hard way better still use non-stick foil). Roll out the dough and cover with cheese, tomato sauce, oil, and oregano. Lay out meats in an even layer. Roll it up real tight and bake for 30 minutes. After that, lay a light layer of oil, cheese and garlic on top and bake for 10 more minutes. Cut into slices and serve with a little extra tomato sauce.
