Gingerbread Houses

Turns out there is a cool tradition here in Medford. Every year about this time they have a Gingerbread House contest. There are three entry levels: kids, kids with adults, and adults. So yesterday we went to see what it was all about. It was fun and amazing to see all the work and time that were put into these creations and the creativity as well. Our favorite was this one done by Jacque Farr. She won first place in the adult category.

The “grass roof” is shredded wheat. the wooden planks are gingerbread baked without leavening to make them hard and stiff then painted with a chocolate wash to give them an aged appearance.

This one won Best of Show. It is a model of the Shakespeare Theater in Ashland OR, where they hold the Shakespeare Festival every summer.
