Before we left California several weeks ago we saw Chanterelles on our grocers shelf at $23.00 a pound. In Litschau, Austria, where we do most of our grocery shopping, we found half a kilo of these (roughly a pound) for 2 Euros, that’s $2.41 or about $5.00 a pound. Score! We used about half of them in a beef stew. We had the rest this morning an omelette. We will be going back for more; how can we resist.
